Rumplestiltskin Grinder
Rumpelstiltskin Grinder - "Buried In The Front Yard"
Reviewed by: Lou

Rumpelstiltskin Grinder CD Cover

The other day, when I was reading a recent metal magazine, I noticed a small advert on the back. It was for a band called Rumpelstiltskin Grinder. I'd never heard of them before, so I thought I'd check them out. First of all I made a quick search on MySpace (since I'd become addicted to it) and found nothing. So I went to their official site, where luckily there were two tracks available for download. Those two tracks were "Stealing E.T." and "Orange And Black Attack". Those two tracks got me hooked and I quickly ordered the album from Play. It arrived yesterday and I've listened to it many times already.

Do you want face-shredding guitar solos? "Buried In The Front Yard" is the place to get 'em! On the CD Rumpelstiltskin Grinder are described as "burglar metal". Do I know what that means? No, I haven't got a clue! All I know is that this is good old style thrash..... and I like it! There's a definite Pantera-vibe here too which goes down pretty well.

This album makes me want to jump around like a complete lunatic. This is perfect music to put on to psyche yourself up for going out... It's great music to have on in a club... I'm sure it's brilliant live... I need to witness it live!

There some excellent 'shout-along' moments. One of which is in "Orange And Black Attack" when Eli Shaika says "No, we're not fuckin' around". You can imagine the crowd at a gig shouting along to this. Another thing worth listening out for is the fantastic acoustic guitar part on "The Day Merman Met Todd". Ryan Moll is possibly my new favourite lead guitarist - he's amazing! I listen to a lot of music (as you may have guessed) and its been a while since I was this excited by a guitarist. The band as whole sound really tight, which each element sounding just right. It's hard to pick the best tracks from this album, but good places to start are; "Orange And Black Attack", "Grab A Shovel (We've Got Bodies To Bury)", "Unleash The Troll" and "Ode To Tanks". The only problem is that this album is a little too short (it clocks in just over half an hour).

Rumpelstiltskin Grinder aren't without humour - check out their band name or some of the song titles ("Stealing E.T." and "Grab A Shovel (We've Got Bodies To Bury)"). So what we have here is a band that don't seem to take themselves too seriously, which have excellent songs with an astounding guitar player! What more do you need??

This band need to play some shows in the UK.... NOW!!!

'Buried In The Front Yard... Not The Back Yard.'
