Artist: In Memorium Track(s): "Immortelle Déchéance", "Resurrection" Reviewed by: Lou
The first track I listened to, "Immortelle Déchéance", is edgy, creepy and atmospheric. In Memorium treat us to a number of tempo changes (one to listen out for is at around the 3mins 30secs mark where the whole thing speeds up a little, only to slow right down again at 6mins). I love the use of church (or funeral) bells, particularly near the end of the track. The lead guitar is especially good throughout the song and the vocals have a Black Metal-esque quality.
"Resurrection" has a
great intro and, where the previous track had extreme vocals, this one
mainly had clean vocals (with additional whispers in the intro). The clean
vocals give the track a slightly ‘Doom Metal’ feel. Two minutes into the track we hear the first of the more extreme vocals. Throughout the song the two vocal styles seem to dance in and out of each other. The lead guitar on this track is also very impressive – check out the guitar solo at around 3mins 30secs. I find "Resurrection" to be extremely haunting. I think that the mean reason why I find it haunting is because of the guitar and (clean) vocal melody at the start of the track. I’ve said this for many songs in the past, but I’ll say it for this one as well – this could work really well in a horror movie soundtrack. I have already made plans to get a copy of their demo at the start of next year... So many CDs, so little time/money... Date added: 21/12/05 |
