Blazed CD Cover

One day, while I was surfing around on the Metal Asylum forums I noticed that someone was asking for someone to review a band called Blazed. I accepted the challenge and so here we are...

I must admit, I really thought that I wasn't going to like this band. The Blazed website welcomes you with the following statement -

"BLAZED is NOT for everyone. BLAZED is for people who are TIRED of needing artists to explain what their music is about. BLAZED is for people who LIKE when the title of the song is the F**KING CHORUS! BLAZED is ROCK without the bullsh*t.
Today there are TWO kinds of ROCK BANDS. Ones that play AT you and ones that whine TO you. BLAZED is niether of those. We are here for you. We are screaming for you. We are singing for you. And EVERYONE is welcome to sing along."

I was put off by this simply because so many bands try to sell themselves in this way. Still, I put all that to the back of my mind and clicked on the "Listen" link...

My ear drums were quickly treated to a track called "Rockstar" and I immediately changed my mind about the band. They rock. Pure and simple. Blazed play no-nonsense rock with a definite 'old skool' vibe. This may be because of the sing-along power choruses!

Blazed have it all. Great songs and, it would seem, a great attitude. One of my favourite tracks on the site is "F--k You!". It opens with the line "You say you don't really like our style / Well I say, what you like just ain’t worth while" and it almost echoes the sentiment of classics such as "Get In The Ring" (Guns N' Roses) and "We're Not Gonna Take It" (Twisted Sister). The latter comparision proved to be an interesting one... After I'd listened to the 6 tracks that are available I thought I'd have a look and see if their EP, "The Party Starts", was available in the UK. I clicked on the "Merch" link and found the following sentence accompanying the CD info...

"Jesse Blaze Snider's (son of Twisted Sister's Dee Snider) first official EP!"

I feel that there is a Twisted Sister influence here, but these guys are far more than a tribute band. They sound fresh and exciting... and they're addictive. I heard them for the first time today and already I've found myself wandering around the office singing "Listen to me now, hear me later / I am the I am the Rock ‘n’ Roll Crusader!" from "Rock Crusader".

I read on their website that they're currently on the verge of being signed and an album and international tour could be coming our way soon. I certainly hope that I get to catch them in London some day!

So, in conclusion... Blazed are like a cold beer on a hot day - Refreshing!
